Now I finally understand
what they mean

about the light spreading
and brightening the unused

spaces, the tiny crystals

on and over the skin, telling
a story about a broken

nickel. Once I thought
I was brave when I told a man

I knew how to swing
from chandeliers

long before I knew
how to sit under them.

Cindy Davis is a mother of three and has presided over various clubs and organizations in her community. She graduated from Hofstra in 2005 with a MA in Literature and Creative Writing with a focus in poetry. She teaches at New York Institute of Technology in Old Westbury, NY.
