“What Is the Sun…”

“What Is the Sun…”

What is the sun but an excuse to see? The long shadows of the buildings spilling into the streets forming rippling channels of darkness like Venetian canals. The boy’s head is shaped like a canoe, so we hop aboard and begin paddling our way across the city, careful to avoid the monsters in business suits. But we all understand this is what it means to be an adult. To wake each morning and look out your window to see the city on fire. To venture out into the blaze and toss buckets of water on to the flames until your flesh dissolves and you are left with nothing but your own ghost to haunt the closet of the child you once were.
